The HTC Hermes(TyTN, Cingular/ATT 8525, HTC P4500, I-Mate JASJAM, T-Mobile MDA Vario 2/HTC Mercury) is a 3G GSM windows mobile Pocket PC smartphone designed by HTC(High Tech Computer Corporation) based out of taiwan. its main control interface is a 2.8inch 320x240 touchscreen and left side slide out qwerty keyboard, with blue LED back lighting. It features a 2 megapixel camera, facing from the rear of the device. Later models of the hermes also features a front-facing video chat camera. Other features include WiFi B/G, Bluetooth 2,IRDA(Infrared), HTCs ExtUSB(usb mini-b + proprietary headphone pins, not 2.5 plugin CHARGES USING STANDARD USB PLUGIN), quadband GSM, MicroSD(microsdhc capable with wm6+ roms). The phone supports GRPS,EDGE,UMTS and HSDPA dataspeeds. it's one of the first phones directly sold through htc, rather than branded-only. On AT&T/Cingular, it's the sucsessor for the HTC Wizard/Cingular 8125. It was superseded by the HTC Kasier/TyTN2/8925/AT&T Tilt.

The Cingular version of the hermes has a substandard alternate keyplacement that differs from other versions, and requires a registryhack for non-8525 based ROMs.

There are 3 models of the Hermes produced, HERM100,200,300. The major difference between them being, the HERM100 lacks a front-facing videochat camera, the HERM200 features a .1megapixel frontfacing camera, and the HERM300 has a .3megapixel videochat camera.

The HERM100 has a small rubber PushToTalk button on the left hand side of the device, which requires a seperate application to remap it, as its locked to att's PTT function in stock roms.

It lacks a 2.5" headphone jack, requiring a ExtUSB to 2.5" adapter, goes for around $3 on ebay.

The HTC Hermes originally shipped with WM5.0, is upgradeble to WM6.0, and WM6.1/6.5 roms are available from XDA-Developers.

HTC Hermes HERM200 is also known as the HTC Mercury.

[edit] Notes

The TyTN has a GPS receiver, however it has no GPS antenna and the GPS is disabled both in ROM and physically through disconnection of certain pins on the circuit.

Early models of the TyTN (HT624xxx - HT632xxx) have been known to suffer from screen alignment problems and should be avoided.
